This way we save money!
Add another $100.00 to the backyard cost and nothing was planted or sown or hoed or built. What the backyard gave me was a rash. A really itchy rash that swelled my wrists and my knees and somehow got my lips to inflate at the corners like a squeezed balloon that blooms out the edge of your balled fist. The doctor visit was $70.00 and the medications cost another $30.00.
After finishing the paver project last Wednesday with the sweeping of sand all seemed to be fine. Thursday, Friday fine. Saturday a little itch started, so I scratched it. Sunday constant itch with some burning just for kicks. It was a nice deep rooted itch. The kind that simple scratching has no chance against. It took new measures to satisfy. Corduroy worked for awhile as did rubbing on the firm carpet that is laid throughout our home. Outside the stucco walls worked really well but that broke a little too much skin and did nothing to cure the itch. After a couple of hours of non-stop scratching my wife suggested a nice bath filled with baking soda. The water must be cold she said for if it is too warm it while irritate the areas. I seemed to have irritated the areas enough on my own. So she runs the bath without any warm water and pours in whole box of the soda. I get in. It helps because my body is too cold to realize any itching and the laughing from my sweet wife is enough to help forget the irritation I felt on my skin. After about thirty minutes of soaking I get out, the swelling has doubled and the itch drives up to the surface slowly. I decide to visit the doctor.
I drive myself to the office in question and go inside. Now you must realize I am 6' 5" tall with not so good posture. I am border line circus freak tall. Add some swelling and I put the fat lady out of business. One doesn't expect an urgent care facility to have much business on a Sunday morning in the middle of summer, but of course the circus just walked through the door. The place is full. I approach the counter with all the seated eyes following. The young lady behind the counter asks without looking up if I have been a patient before. I respond yes. What the hell, I have only been in this town for three months and have been to this office four times. She looks up and without hesitation calls out "DOCTOR!" The doctor looks up from her charts and says "Oh my. Please come this way. What has happened to you?" I here a few sighs of frustration from the waiting patients behind me.
We discussed my swelled lips and wrists and knees. She informs that I am having a allergic reaction. The doctor inquires about my diet of the past week, any type of vegetation I might have brushed up against, cleaning supplies and bathing habits. I have no answers for her. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I stump her. She sends me on my way with a steroid prescription to rid the reaction and some anti-histamine for the itching. It has all cleared up now and I have no idea what caused it and I am now a little concerned about going out back because I am now thinking something evil is lurking in the soil.
